How does paintless dent repair work?

A technician reads the dent under a reflection board, then uses steel rods and picks behind the panel to push the metal back out in small, controlled steps. Nothing is sanded, filled or painted, so the factory finish stays as it left the factory. Many repairs are done the same day.

01

Reading the dent

Straight light lines bend wherever the metal is out of shape, showing the dent’s edges, depth and any high spots.

02

Working the metal from behind

Rods reach behind the panel through existing access points and push the metal out a little at a time. Where there’s no access, glue-pull tabs work from the front.

03

Final finish check

We check the panel under light from several angles until every line runs straight again.

What dents can be repaired with PDR?

PDR works when the paint is unbroken and the metal hasn’t been stretched too far. Steel and aluminum panels can both be repaired.

How much does paintless dent repair cost?

The price depends on the dent’s size, depth and where it sits on the panel. A single door ding costs far less than a hail-damaged roof, and PDR usually costs less than traditional body repair because there’s no paint or filler. PDR questions

All questions

How long does paintless dent repair take?

Most single dents take about 1–3 hours. Larger creases or several dents take longer, and you’ll get a time estimate with your quote.

Will PDR affect my warranty?

PDR keeps the original factory paint, with no filler or repainting. [Confirm wording with the client.]

Can you repair dents on aluminum panels?

Yes. Aluminum is harder to work than steel and many shops replace the panel instead. We repair aluminum doors and panels without replacement wherever the metal allows.

What’s the difference between PDR and body repair?

Body repair fills, sands and repaints the panel. PDR reshapes the metal from behind, so the factory paint is never touched — usually faster and less expensive.
